This Privacy Policy explains how Kohru (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use:

  • The Kohru iOS mobile application

  • The Kohru Chrome browser extension

  • Any related services (collectively, the “Services”)

By using the Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

 

1. Overview

Kohru is designed to minimize data collection.

Most session data (including productivity sessions, streaks, settings, and usage records) is stored locally on your device or browser.

We do not provide automatic cloud backups of session history.

 

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

When you authenticate using:

  • Apple Sign-In

  • Google Sign-In

We may receive basic account information such as:

  • Email address

  • Unique user identifier

  • Name (if provided by the authentication provider)

We do not receive your Apple ID or Google password.

Authentication is handled securely by Apple and Google.

 

2.2 Subscription Information

If you purchase a subscription:

  • Payments are processed by Apple through the App Store.

  • We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status and entitlements.

  • We do not collect or store payment card details.

RevenueCat may process anonymized purchase and subscription data to verify active subscriptions.

 

2.3 Analytics & Technical Data

We use Firebase services to collect limited technical and usage information, which may include:

  • Device type

  • Operating system version

  • App version

  • Country or region (approximate)

  • Session activity metrics

  • Crash reports

This data is used to:

  • Improve performance

  • Fix bugs

  • Understand feature usage

  • Maintain security

Analytics data does not include your locally stored session history.

 

2.4 Notifications

If you enable notifications, we may send:

  • Session reminders

  • Productivity prompts

  • App updates

Notification permissions can be revoked at any time in your device settings.

 

3. Local Data Storage

All productivity session data, streaks, records, and most user-generated content are stored locally on your device or browser.

This means:

  • Deleting the app will delete locally stored data.

  • Removing the Chrome extension will delete locally stored data.

  • Clearing browser storage or device data may permanently erase session history.

  • Signing in with Apple or Google does not guarantee cloud backup of session data.

We cannot recover locally deleted data.

 

4. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide and operate the Services

  • Verify subscription status

  • Improve features and performance

  • Send notifications (if enabled)

  • Maintain security and prevent misuse

  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal data.

 

5. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA, UK & Similar Regions)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or similar jurisdictions, we process personal data based on:

  • Performance of a contract (providing the Services)

  • Legitimate interests (analytics, security, improvement)

  • Your consent (notifications)

  • Legal compliance

 

6. Data Sharing

We may share limited information with trusted service providers, including:

  • Apple (authentication & billing)

  • Google (authentication, if used)

  • Firebase (analytics & infrastructure)

  • RevenueCat (subscription management)

These providers process data on our behalf or as independent controllers under their own privacy policies.

We do not sell personal information to third parties.

 

7. International Users

Kohru is available worldwide.

Your information may be processed in countries outside your own, including countries that may have different data protection laws.

We take reasonable steps to protect information in accordance with applicable laws.

 

8. Data Retention

  • Locally stored session data remains on your device until deleted by you or removed through app/extension deletion.

  • Account-related data (such as email and subscription status) may be retained as necessary to provide Services or comply with legal obligations.

  • Analytics data may be retained in aggregated or anonymized form.

 

9. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access your personal information

  • Request correction

  • Request deletion

  • Withdraw consent (where applicable)

  • Object to certain processing

Note: We cannot restore locally deleted session data.

 

10. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information.

However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

 

11. Children’s Privacy

Kohru is not intended for children under 13 years of age.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us.

 

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

Updates become effective upon posting within the App, Chrome extension listing, or website.

Continued use of the Services after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
